Chapter 1
Depression
Depression is certainly not something anyone would want to
experience. It is agonizing and frightening.
Why can't we just "decide" to feel differently?
If we could, we certainly would!
Good News
The good news is that there is a permanent cure for depression. It
can become a thing of the past, no longer waiting to ambush you.
You may be surprised to know that depression is a painful
emotional reaction to some sort of wound that we have inside.
In my physical body, if I get a splinter in my finger, my body reliably
tells me about it. Only by knowing about it's presence will I know
to get some tweezers and remove it.
When I remove the splinter, my body gives a sigh of relief, as if to
say, "Thanks, I needed that." Now that the splinter is gone, my
body can heal the wound, and the pain disappears.
So it is with the emotional pain of depression. The pain is reliably
telling you that there is a wound inside. When the wound is healed,
the depression disappears.
The Questions
However, the big question is: what sort of wound can cause such a
huge and overwhelming reaction?
And there is a second question: once I find the source of the pain,
how do I "pull out the splinter?"
The splinter in my finger requires a physical solution - tweezers.
Depression is a wound of the heart, and so it requires a spiritual
cure.
