Chapter 1
Shyness

The Problem
Shyness is a symptom of fear.  It is a problem, because
human beings are relational beings.  When we lack
meaningful relationships, or have trouble meeting people,
there is a place inside us that goes unfulfilled.  Thus the
saying, "painfully shy" is meaningful.  Being shy can be very
painful because of the relational deprivation.

The fear is a fear of rejection.  When someone doesn't like us
or is critical of us, it is devastating.  So inside there is a
reluctance to venture out.

It is a bit like me and ladders.  Once long ago I had a very
scary event happen on a ladder.  Even now I am uptight
whenever I am on a ladder.  The trauma has stuck with me

So it is with people who have been traumatized, or criticized,
or rejected, or neglected by important people in their
childhood.  The fear has stuck with them.

The Cure
The good news is that this fear in relationships can be healed
by Jesus.

You just need
detailed instructions as to how to
appropriate the cure into your life, so you can be set free.

My book, "I Will Give You Rest" addresses the whole array of
human struggles that Jesus can heal.  The chapter order is
for the majority of needs.

However, your issue needs specific attention, and so I would
recommend that you read the book in a different order.

Recommended Sequence
I would recommend that you start with Chapters 9, which will
show you where the pain is coming from, and why it is there.

Then go to
Chapter 11, which will identify a powerful tool that
you possess that is indispensable in your healing journey.

Then go to
Chapter 12, which will help you to see yourself
through God's eyes.

Finally, go to
Chapter 2 and read the rest of the chapters in
order.

Your Journey
I would recommend that you write down somewhere this
revised sequence of chapters so that you will not forget it -
remember, Chapters
9, 11, 12, 2.  Of course, you can always
come back here if you forget.

Be aware that when you read the chapters out of order, you
will bump into some terms with which you are not familiar,
because they were taught in earlier chapters which you have
not yet read.

However, this should not interfere with the main messages in
the chapters you are reading out of order.

One of the great things about being able to go through this
journey online is that you don't have to risk yourself in
relationship to do so.  Therefore, you can relax and focus.

You are free to spend as much time as you like on
this website, and you can jump in and out as your
schedule gives you time to read.  When you come
back, you can just take up where you left off by
clicking on the appropriate chapter in the links on the
left of the web pages.
