Chapter 1
Eating Disorders

The Problem
Eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulemia, are
compelling, mysterious, and especially problematic.  With
alcoholism or drug abuse, the person can simply stop using
the substance.  However, we all have to eat, so the person
with an eating disorder has their problem in their face every
day.

Eating disorders are compelling and very difficult to resist.
They are also mysterious, because they don't seem to make
sense.  After all, a person with anorexia is typically
extraordinarily thin, but is convinced they are overweight.
This defies logic, but is profoundly true.  When they look in a
mirror, they truly see a fat person.

The problem seems to be bigger than they are, and can
actually be life-threatening.

Why is the person stuck in this destructive trap?

How come their faith doesn't seem adequate to give them the
victorious life Jesus promised?

Some Promises
After all, Jesus promised:

….where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2
    Corinthians 3:1, all NKJV).

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted . . .
To proclaim liberty to the captives . . .
To set at liberty those who are oppressed . . . (Luke 4:
    18).

For My yoke is easy and My burden is light (Matthew 11:
    30).

I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).

You probably know many more promises in the Bible.

What Is Wrong?
Somehow, the promises seem greater than the reality you are
experiencing.

Is this the way it should be?

How come your faith it isn't working?

These are reasonable questions.

In fact, they are the right questions.

There Is An Answer
All the above scriptures really are true.

However, you just need
detailed instructions as to how to
appropriate Jesus' provision into your life, so you can be set
free.

The core issue in eating disorders that the person has a deep
seated insecurity.  This often makes no sense, because
people with eating disorders are typically especially talented
and sensitive.

My book "I Will Give You Rest" addresses the whole array of
human struggles that Jesus can heal.  The chapter order is
for the majority of needs.

However, your specific issue needs specific attention, and so
I would recommend that you read the book in a different
order.

Recommended Sequence
I would recommend that you start with Chapter 9, which will
show you why you feel insecure.  There is a profound reason
for this, and you need to understand the cause before you
can apply the cure.

Then go to
Chapter 12, which will help you understand that
you are beautiful just as you are.

Then go to
Chapter 11, which will identify a powerful tool that
you possess that is indispensable in your healing journey.

Finally, go back to
Chapter 2 and read the rest of the chapters
in order.

Your Journey
I would recommend that you write down somewhere this
revised sequence of chapters so that you will not forget it -
remember,
9, 12, 11, 2.  Of course, you can always come
back here if you forget.

Be aware that when you read the chapters out of order, you
will bump into some terms with which you are not familiar,
because they were taught in earlier chapters which you have
not yet read.

However, this should not interfere with the main messages in
the chapters you are reading out of order.

You are free to spend as much time as you like on
this website, and you can jump in and out as your
schedule gives you time to read.  When you come
back, you can just take up where you left off by
clicking on the appropriate chapter in the links on the
left of the web pages.
