Romans 6, 7, and 8
A translation by Edward Kurath

These verses are incredibly powerful.
They should be a great encouragement to you -

In my opinion Romans 6, 7, and 8 have typically been mistranslated into
English.  Most English translations see the Greek text through a Western
mindset, which emphasizes the will and the intellect.  Such an emphasis
tends to set people into striving to be good in their own strength, whereas
in these chapters of Romans
Paul is teaching exactly the opposite.

We need a miraculous solution to our spiritual problems, and that solution
is the sacrifice of Jesus.  He came to take away our sin, not to bring
greater condemnation and defeat.  He came to bring us an easy yoke and
a light burden (Matthew 11:30), not to give us a task that it is impossible
for us to fulfill.  Paul spoke clearly about this inability of ours in Romans 7:

"for that which I am doing, I do not understand; for what I will to do,
    this I am not practicing, but what I hate, this I am doing . . . A
wretched man I am!  Who shall rescue me out of this body of death?
I am thanking God - through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 7:15,
    24, 25).

See my translation of Romans 8:3 as a clear illustration of how a
translation can send us in exactly the wrong direction.

I humbly present to you my own translation of these chapters, with my
commentary linking the Bible verses back to my book, “I Will Give You
Rest” (which I abbreviate as IWGYR).  In this way, if you so choose, you
can go back to the book to get more details than I could insert in my
commentary in this translation.

This is intended to be a translation, not a paraphrase.  I have attempted to
give the literal meaning of the Greek words and the Greek grammar as
best I could, though I am not a New Testament Greek scholar.

I think that you will be blessed by the profound message the Apostle Paul
gave to us in these chapters in the book of Romans.
