Divinely  Designed
Being changed into the image of Jesus
Chapter 1
Alcohol Addiction

As the reader of this page, you may be either the
alcoholic or a family member of the alcoholic.
Please note that I am writing this page from the
viewpoint of the alcoholic, so I will be using the
pronoun "you."

The Problem
As you may recall, on the prior page I quoted the Apostle
Paul:

"For what I am doing, I do not understand.  For what I will to do,
that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. . . O Wretched man
that I am!  Who will deliver me from this body of death?  I thank
God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:15 and 24, NKJV).

This is the common frustration of most alcoholics.  They hate what
they are doing, recognize that it is creating problems in their lives, but
keep falling back into it.

A Universal Struggle
You aren't alone.  As a Christian, whenever I bump into anything that I
can not gain control of, it is not that I am a wimp or weak (though I may
have come to that conclusion).  Rather, there is a
powerful reason
why I lose.

There Is A Cure
As a first step in gaining victory over alcohol, you need to gain an
understanding of why the compulsion to drink is sometimes so
overwhelming, and why you can't use your will power to conquer it
permanently.

You may be able to have periods of sobriety, but you are aware that
the problem is still lurking in the background.

But Paul is talking about a more powerful remedy, which he is implying
will free us from this "body of death."

How To Find The Cure
In the next 3 chapters on this website I will explain why the compulsion
to drink is so powerful that it overwhelms your own best efforts.

Then in Chapter 5 I will begin to explain the cure Paul is alluding to.

The cure is
much more powerful than you can imagine.

And once you understand it, as a Christian it will make total sense to
you.
